Unfortunately, water damage like the picture above shows what is not covered under your homeowner’s policy. It can be confusing on what kind of water damage your insurance covers. Always check with your independent insurance agent if you have any questions about coverage.
Homeowner’s policies usually do not cover floods and damages that happen because of them. Floods would be covered under flood insurance. Also, if water seeps into your house and causes damage over time, this is also not usually covered.
You may be asking yourself; well, what is covered? If a storm occurred, breaking a window allowing rain to get inside or even a hole in the roof causing a leak, your homeowner’s insurance may apply. Again, always check with your agent to make sure what your homeowner’s insurance covers.
For any kind of water damage, always clean up and try and contain the damage as best as you can to prevent further damage!
